Travel Policy Changes for 2015
Over the last year there were some significant changes to our Travel Policy. The first change had to do with the booking of overnight trips. Last year Provincial advised us that all overnight trips must be booked through a certified travel agent. At that point we were still able to do our own booking for one day trips. However, after consultation with our Provincial lawyers Provincial informed all Districts that any booking of buses or hotels must be done by a TICO (Travel Industry Council of Ontario) agent. This policy is designed to protect Districts from liability in the case of an accident.
Because we wish to adhere to this policy we have decided to use a local travel agent this year. We chose Vellinga's Travel because they agreed to taylor our trips to our specifications. We are offering 3 different travel adventures this year and we are hopeful that they will be successful. The trips will be slightly more in cost because we are using the services of the travel agency.
It is our intention to offer the trips to members and friends up until a few months before the date of the trip. At that time any openings will be be offered to the general public. We are hopeful that we will not have to do this.
